The Rotary Club of Denton, MD’s New Member Understanding of Obligation to Rotary

Service

Rotary is a worldwide organization of individuals whose purpose is the development of fellowship and understanding who provide community service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and build goodwill and peace in the world. Each Rotarian is asked to serve on at least one committee and is asked to provide some service time during the year to that committee. New Rotarians will be asked to participate on a committee soon after joining. There is a lot to learn about Rotary and active participation ensures you enjoy your Rotary experience. All of us in Rotary have businesses to run and a Rotarian should never feel compelled to provide more service that you can afford to provide.

Attendance

Club meetings are held every Wednesday at 12:00PM at the Caroline Culinary Center.  You are encouraged to attend a majority of these meetings. If you cannot attend a weekly meeting, you have the option to make-up a missed meeting by attending a meeting of another Rotary Club anywhere in the world up through June 30th of each Rotary fiscal year. When you attend the meeting of another Rotary Club, they will give you a make-up card which you turn in to our Club Secretary to receive attendance credit. Attendance at designated Rotary functions such as Club Board Meetings, District Functions or Rotary International events count as a make-up.

It’s recommended that Rotarians attend 50% of the meetings, with at least 30% at our Club to be considered active Club members.

Financial Commitment

The Rotary Club of Denton invoices members quarterly for their dues.  Two fee structures are currently offered.   The club’s annual dues without meals are $300, which are invoiced quarterly at $75/quarter.  This does not include meals so members choosing this option are responsible for paying for their lunch each week.  The other option is to include meals, which is $740 and invoiced at a quarterly rate of $185/quarter. Payment is due immediately upon invoice.  Annual dues to the Club are used to pay your dues to Rotary International and Rotary District 7630.

The Rotary Club of Denton has several events a year, including the 10th Grade Career Fair, Courthouse Holiday Lighting on the Green, and the Flags for Heroes Installation. All members are expected to participate in at least 2 events/year.

Denton Rotarians are proud to help provide funding to the Rotary Foundation, which is one of the largest private Foundations in the world. The Foundation provides help to people all over the world. Our club also donates approximately $3,000-$5,000 annually to various local charities and scholarships. We raise funds through various means, such as our Flags for Heroes and Caroline County Discount Cards, to support these endeavors.

If you wish to terminate your membership in the club, written notification should be provided to the Club President. Any financial obligation must be satisfied at that time. Our Club does not prorate or refund quarterly dues or meal costs.
